Behind the Scenes: An Interview with two of our Interpreters!

Language is a powerful tool that helps unite people, and our interpreters play a vital role in ensuring everyone is heard. They work hard to break down language barriers so that they can access important services, be understood, and feel valued no matter what language someone speaks.

Our interpreters are there to make sure people can connect with others in healthcare, legal matters, education, and more. Their work isn’t just about translating words—it’s about helping people feel included and giving them a voice when it matters most.

We spoke with two of our interpreters to learn more about their roles, the challenges they face, and why they love what they do. Their stories remind us how important it is to have caring, dedicated professionals who make a real difference in people's lives.

Tell us a little about your job role:

Interpreter #1:

"My role as an interpreter is to attend face-to-face meetings or over the telephone and interpret/convert one spoken language to another accurately and correctly."

Interpreter #2:

"My job role is to carry out face to face or over the phone interpreting assignments from Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Arabic, Urdu and Hindi into English and vice versa."

Interpreters serve as the bridge between different languages and cultures, ensuring that no message is lost in translation. The need for accurate, clear, and culturally sensitive communication is paramount in various settings, from legal and medical sectors to everyday interactions.

What is your favourite thing about being an interpreter?

Interpreter #1:

"The constancy of the work and approachability and support of C2k staff."

Interpreter #2:

"My favourite is the variety of languages available to carry out assignments and the travels to different locations."

Both interpreters highlighted the consistency of work and the satisfaction that comes with variety. Whether interpreting different languages or traveling to different locations, the role offers plenty of opportunities for professional and personal growth.

Tell us a little about your experience and why you became an interpreter:

Interpreter #1:

"Previously I worked with various agencies as an interpreter to utilise my skills as a speaker of languages other than English. I find working as an interpreter both rewarding and can be a good career choice."

Interpreter #2:

"I have other professional qualifications, but I have chosen to be an interpreter due to some personal reasons."

Each interpreter brings their unique background and motivations to the role, whether it’s a personal passion for language or the desire to use their multilingual skills professionally. It’s clear that the profession offers more than just a job—it provides a meaningful and rewarding career path.

What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone considering becoming an interpreter?

Interpreter #1:

"You have to be organised, professional when dealing with customers and stick to your role as an interpreter."

Interpreter #2:

"I would urge them to be professional and punctual."
